While we can’t provide a definitive timeline for how long it takes to adopt a pet from a private owner, we are here to support you (and the private owner) through the adoption process!
If you’ve submitted an application for a pet listed by a private owner and haven’t heard anything after a full two weeks, please contact us with the pet’s ID number, and we’ll be happy to reach out to them on your behalf.
Many times, adopting a pet from a private owner is faster, however that isn't always the case. Here are some things that may slow down the process:
- If the pet’s family receives an overwhelming amount of adoption applications.
- The pet’s family may have a hectic schedule, resulting in a delayed amount of time before (or between) meet & greets, emails, calls, and/or an adoption approval.
- The pet's family lives far away from you. Depending on where you both decide to meet, if they have to travel a far distance, they may need extra time to make the necessary travel arrangements.
- The pet’s family may just be slower to communicate.
Whatever the reason, don’t take it personally! While this is an exciting time for you as a future adopter, please keep in mind, this may be a very difficult time for them.
