If a pet is listed on Adopt a Pet it should still be available! When a pet is adopted through Rehome by Adopt a Pet, their profile is automatically removed from Adopt a Pet. How do you know if the pet is listed through our Rehome service? Excellent question! The pet’s profile will state, "I'm being cared for by a private owner", AND there will be an "Apply to Adopt" button.
If you submitted an application on a private owner pet, Rehome asks private owners to respond to all adoption applications within 72 hours if possible. However, some families are in difficult situations. Please give them up to 14 days to respond, and keep in mind, the average response time is 7-10 days. We recommend that you continue to look, and apply for other pets while you wait.
Depending on the private owner’s decision:
- If they would like to move forward with you, they will contact you directly via phone or email.
- If they decide to move forward with another applicant, you will not hear from the owner directly, you’ll receive an automatic email notification from us.
If it's been more than 14 days since you applied and you haven’t received a notification or heard from the private owner, please move on to other pet(s).
