- To contact the private owner, submit an application by clicking the "Apply to Adopt" button on the pet’s profile. If there are specific things you would like to ask the pet’s family, feel free to include those on your application.
Pro Tip: Asking about the pet on your application is great! However, don’t flood them with questions at the expense of telling them about YOU! Be real, honest, and candid; let them know what a wonderful home you'll provide and why you want to adopt their pet. You'll be able to ask as many questions as you like when you speak with them!
2. Now for the fun part…awaiting a response. We know the waiting game can be so hard, especially after finding a pet you’d like to adopt! Please know, the pet’s family will reach out to you as soon as they can.
We do encourage them to promptly reply within 72 hours when possible. However, we do ask for your patience, and that you give them 14 days to respond.
Fun Fact: The average response time from a private owner is 7-10 days.
During this time, you're welcome to submit other applications if there are other pets you are considering.
If the private owner would like to proceed, they will contact you directly via phone or email. Next, you’ll arrange a Meet & Greet if you’re both amenable to moving forward at this stage. If they decide to move forward with another applicant, you'll receive an automatic email notification from us.
If it's been more than 14 days since you applied and you haven’t received a notification or heard from the private owner, please move on to look for a different pet.
Happy Adopting!
